2012 Officers/Committees
Angela Young - President
Hello Everyone! Allow me to introduce myself and tell those of you who don't already know me a bit more about myself. I'm a longtime member of the NFHA and Fjord owner. I reside in Berkley with my three equine children Spot the retired Appaloosa, Frits the furry Fjord, and Crackers the mini stallion. Along with the four of us is my husband Patrick and our other two children Penelope the Basset Hound and Colby the giant Black Lab. We, just a year ago, bought my dream farm and are in the ending stages of fixing it up to bring everyone home. Forever Young farm will soon be in operation!
Frits and I compete throughout the year in judged trail rides, team penning, and hunter paces. In our travels we educate the public about the breed and help set a great example for the willingness, stamina, boldness, levelheadedness and honesty of the breed. Feel free to contact me and join us on some of our adventures! I look forward to serving as your president this year and hope to make it a great profitable fun year for all Fjords and Friends!

Sheri Bankert - Vice President
_This
is my first year as an Officer for the NFHA. I became a member of the
NFHA several years ago to support my friends and their love of the Fjord
breed. In no time at all I fell victim to the Fjord addiction! I
own/love and ride my Quarter Horse Emmy Lou who you will see and read
about occasionally on this board traveling with her Fjord Friends. We
call her an honorary Fjord member! Emmy lived at Red Rock Farm in
Dighton with several Fjords which is how we came to know and love the
breed for their cuteness and horsinality! We are the proud owners of
Solveig I, known to most as Sophie, a 19 year old Fjord we purchased for
my daughter Megan two years ago. Emmy and Sophie reside at our home in
Dighton, MA along with our new addition Rodeo, a 7 month old Mustang
colt, our German Shepard
Miyah, our Australian Shepard Sydney and cats Dimitri and Luna. Oh and
don't forget the two legged people who reside there as well, my husband
Keith who supports my addiction as well as our two children Megan and
Benjamin. We enjoy trail riding, versatility and most recently team
penning! Sophie and some of the cows are about the same size but she
LOVES IT and did so well her first year, our team moved from amateur to
professional in one season! Sophie is an absolute love, reliable, level
headed and fun. When I just want to hop on her bareback and go, no fuss,
I know I can throw on a bitless bridle and count on her to take care of
me. She’s a good girl. I’m excited to be VP this year and hope to help
make it a successful year for all our Fjord members!
Rita Maccini - Treasurer
I have been an NFHA member for many years. Over the years I have been elected to the positions of Vice President, Secretary and now Treasurer. I am a current member of the show committee and have served on this Committee for the past four shows. I have been around horses most of my life but “truly fell in love” when I bought my first Fjord LFF Haakon. I work to support my “horse” habit at the Holyoke Housing Authority as Director of Housing. I live in Shelburne, MA with my husband Mark Horton, daughter Julia Horton, three wild and crazy Corgis, a sweet Dachshund cross, a very dignified Akita, Haakon and Julia’s horse Jett. This is my 8th year as a board member of NFHA. I am happily passing off the role as President for the past 3 years to Angela and I am very excited to take over as Secretary. I currently live in Middleboro, MA with my husband Don, our 8 year old daughter Emma and our 5 year old son, Chase. We are proud owners of a 10 year old red dun fjord mare named CNFF Gwendelyn, my daughter's Paso Fino pony Midnight, a handful of chickens, 2 cats and a rabbit. I am very happy to still be part of the board and have a lot of new ideas to help the club grow.

Greetings! I am new to the NFHA board and relatively new to
the Fjord breed. Like many girls, I rode nonstop as a youngster, but was unable
to continue when I went off to college and had to choose between riding and
skiing (and of course classes too).
I was reintroduced to riding 6 years ago courtesy of one of my best ski buddies, Marny, who had purchased a 5 yo Fjord gelding, White Roses’ Scout, who she insisted I would love. Not surprisingly, she was right and is totally to blame for the rekindling of my 30 year dormant horse obsession.
I am the happy caretaker of 11 year old White Roses’ Lilly (1/2 sister to Scout) one of Marny’s four Fjords. Lilly has been ‘mine’ since June 2011; after 3 years as a therapeutic riding horse, she was due for a change of scenery, which I am thrilled to provide. We do a little dressage, have begun jumping and have done some trail classes …. She is very game, will try anything and is truly a Fabulous Fjord.
Lilly lives at Pinegate Farm in Swansea MA, where she also does 2 or 3 lessons a week in the lesson program and is, without question, the Princess of Popularity!
I live in S Dartmouth, MA with 4 cats and work at a local boatyard to fund my horse habit. I do a little sailing in the summer and fit in some skiing in the winter around my riding and photography. I am looking forward to many years of involvement with Fjords and with the NFHA.

For the past 33 years, my wife Norma and I have owned and operated Blue Heron Farm in Charlemont, MA, where, among our other functions, we breed and train Norwegian Fjord horses. Our current herd numbers 15 of the “fuzzy yellow ponies” we all love so much. I hold an earned Ph.D. in Plant Science and have worked in the Department of Entomology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst for the past 29 years as well. I’m pleased to say that I am currently semi-retired from UMass, working there about 2 days a week now.

I am the “full time farmer” in our family and the one who has primary responsibility for our menagerie of horses (15), goats (14), dogs (2), barn cats (8), and house cats (1). I also oversee the vacation rentals we maintain on the farm. I have been active in showing for many years; having started with participating in and then running ADGA sanctioned dairy goat shows. Now that our herd has been converted to meat goats, I focus on breeding, training, and showing the Fjords. I look forward to more active participation in the NFHA over the coming year.

I bought Peaches, registered name, Pia, in the summer of 1996 from Susan Cook and Marcy Baer. Susan was the president of the Northeast Fjord Horse Association at the time and strongly urged me to join, and I did right away. I also joined the Registry for life at the same time. I started to attend the Fjord shows at S. Woodstock in 1997 and did so every year with increasing involvement. The first one I missed was the 2006 show when I was too disabled from chemotherapy to attend. I was back full force for the next years but was in the Arctic for last years show. I have also helped out at the NFHA booth at Equine Affaire for many years. I primarily trail ride Peaches but she has done one or two fox hunts with Old North Bridge Hounds, a club I have been a member of for many years. She is great on trails, is comfortable alone and rather good at bushwhacking. She is a typical, friendly Fjord Horse and loves to go up to people on the trail to say hi and see if they have anything for her to eat. She has done a number of pace events with me or ridden by a friend and has pinned in almost all of them. In 2007 she and about 13 other horses led a funeral procession of our deceased past master from her home to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. She waited quietly during the grave side service and then led the horses out of the cemetery. Another special experience was this past fall when our hunt club participated in the parade for Concord's 375th birthday. Peaches has also helped young Pony Club members learn the basics. She is a real pleasure.
